5 Reasons Why Yoga is an Important Physical Activity for Kids?

Yoga is one of the best ways to keep your body and mind fit. In our recent “Modern-Living” we choose to compromise on healthy living, and this passes on to our kids as well. We live in a world where exercising, or doing any physical activity is not given much of importance. As parents, we usually don’t think about how this could have a stressful impact on our kids. Here are some of the benefits of how Yoga and exercising are important for kids today:

1. Enhanced flexibility and coordination
Exercising plays a huge role in shaping your child’s postures. The postures are designed to make the body more flexible and healthy. Children that have a healthy body are more confident and strong, have a better posture, breathe better and have a sense of strength.

2. Improved concentration and sense of calmness
Did you know how children who do at least an hour of exercise after school are far better at concentrating the rest of the time? Not only this, but it helps in creating awareness in the body through deep breathing and movement. It teaches children to relax and look within themselves for strength. Kids who practice yoga regularly find it easier to stay focused and concentrate for longer periods of time. As a result, their attention span increases and they’re able to grasp more.

3. Intimate relationship with the natural world
Yoga as an exercise will develop a sense of connectivity with nature. Get your child to exercise daily in the open, and this will draw an inspiration from the world around you. When your kid starts doing yoga, they see and feel the grace of a swan, the stretch of a dog, the stillness of a flamingo and the grounded stature of a tree. They establish a deep connection between the environment and their own bodies.

4. Refined body awareness and self-esteem
Yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem, confidence, and body awareness with a physical activity that’s noncompetitive. Fostering cooperation and compassion instead of opposition is a great gift to give to our children. 🙂

5. No unhealthy competition
Yoga is a healthy and non-competitive activity that requires just a small stretch of space which in turn helps your child build a vast stretch of composure. There are no additional tools required, it is an activity that’s solely between the mind and the body. The simplicity of this exercise can have a positive impact on children.
