Buddha Purnima 2025: Celebrating the Light of Enlightenment

Buddha Purnima, also known as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti, is one of the most sacred festivals in Buddhism. It commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death (Parinirvana) of Gautama Buddha. In 2025, Buddha Purnima will be celebrated on Monday, May 12th. This day is observed with devotion, peace, and spiritual reflection across India, Nepal, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and other Buddhist nations.

Significance of Buddha Purnima:

This “Thrice Blessed Festival” marks three key events in Buddha’s life:

  • Enlightenment: Commemorates Gautama Buddha attaining enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya.
  • Nirvana: Marks the day of Buddha’s passing away and attainment of Nirvana in Kushinagar.
