A man, working at the Vizag airport, stabbed Reddy on his left arm with a sharp object when he was coming out of a lounge at the airport. Reddy, the leader of the opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, was reported to be fine and was taken to a nearby hospital for the wound he received in the attack.
Jaganmohan Reddy attack incident:
- Reddy was stabbed on his left arm by the man who works at a canteen at the airport. The man, identified as Srinivas, managed to come close to the YSRCP chief on the pretext of taking a selfie with him. The man has been detained and is being questioned. Unconfirmed reports also said that the attacker had been removed from the job two days ago but he had not returned his identity card and airport entry pass.
- Andhra Pradesh Home Minister NC Rajappa said an inquiry was underway to ascertain what triggered the attack. “Opposition leader Jaganmohan Reddy was attacked at Visakhapatnam Airport today. The attacker has been identified as a worker at the airport. He approached Reddy asking him for a selfie and attacked him. He has been taken into custody and an inquiry is underway,” Rajappa told reporters.

In view of the revelation, the YSRCP has alleged a TDP conspiracy behind the attack. “There is definitely a political motive behind this,” YSRCP MP YV Subba Reddy said. The TDP, on the other hand, condemned the incident. “We condemn the attack on Mr Jaganmohan Reddy,” party MP Dinakar Lanka said. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for security at all airports in the country, has denied it as a security lapse. The CISF said the incident happened in the area where people are not frisked.
