Jammu Terror Attack at Sunjwan Army Camp

Indian Army confirms death of Two soldiers killed, six others also injured in Sunjwan attack

At least three terrorists on Saturday barged into an army camp in Sunjwan area of Jammu and Kashmir and opened fire, news agency ANI reported. Two junior commissioned officers lost their lives in the attack, while six others, including one of the  officer’s daughter, were injured. A colonel rank officer was among those injured in the terror attack, Jammu and Kashmir Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri today said,At least four terrorists were believed holed up in one of the family quarters of the building, a senior official said.

 




A senior lawmaker of the National Conference raised Pro-Pakistan slogans in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly after BJP members condemned the neighboring country over the terror attack on an army camp in Jammu.


The NC distanced itself from the sloganeering by party MLA Mohammad Akbar Lone which came even as the operation to flush out terrorists from the Sunjwan camp was underway. The NC condemned the slogans, terming them unacceptable.




Reacting to the attack, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tweeted: “Deeply disturbed by the terrorist attack in #Sunjwan today. My heart goes out to the injured & their families.”

District authorities have asked schools within 500 meters radius of the camp to stay closed.

Search and combing operations are underway near the Army camp. Security forces have cordoned off the area and educational institutions within half a kilometre radius of the camp have been shut down for the day.

Jammu and Kashmir Speaker Kavinder Gupta visited the main gate of army camp as the security forces carried out the anti-terror operation against the holed up terrorists.
