The\u00a0Supreme Court\u00a0on Thursday agreed to hear a fresh petition filed by\u00a0advocate\u00a0Prashant Bhushan\u00a0seeking Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe against\u00a0Central Bureau of Investigation\u00a0(CBI) officials, including its Special\u00a0Director\u00a0Rakesh Asthana.<\/p>\n
A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by\u00a0Chief Justice\u00a0of\u00a0India\u00a0(CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, however, has not given any date for hearing the petition. “We will look into the issue,” the bench of the top court said.<\/p>\n
Bhushan, appearing for NGO ‘Common Cause’ today mentioned the matter before the top court seeking quashing of the order against CBI\u00a0Director\u00a0Alok Verma\u00a0and appointment of M Nageshwar\u00a0Rao\u00a0as the\u00a0interim\u00a0director\u00a0of the investigating agency.<\/p>\n
After a spell of the internal fighting in the\u00a0premier\u00a0investigating agency, the Centre divested Verma and Asthana from their roles and asked them to go on leave. The two officials were at loggerheads on several issues and accused each other of blocking investigation of important cases.<\/p>\n
The CBI had recently filed an FIR against Asthana for allegedly accepting a bribe from a businessman, who was linked to\u00a0Moin Akhtar Qureshi\u00a0case. Asthana was heading the SIT that was probing Qureshi’s case.<\/p>\n
