The Uttar Pradesh government will celebrate the birthday of late Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on December 23 as ‘Kisaan Samman Diwas’, an official said today.<\/p>\n
Agriculture Production Commissioner Raj Pratap Singh said all divisional commissioners and district magistrates have been instructed to celebrate ‘Kisaan Samman Diwas’ at state, district and block levels.<\/p>\n
Seminars and exhibitions should be organised, and farmers who have done commendable work should be felicitated, he said in a statement here.<\/p>\n
Singh was born on December 23, 1902 in Noorpur in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, in a middle-class peasant family.<\/p>\n
Influenced by Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violence, Singh entered the Independence movement. After Independence, he associated himself with socialism in rural areas.<\/p>\n
He was the chief architect of land reforms in UP. He took a leading part in the formulation and finalisation of the Dept. Redemption Bill 1939, which brought great relief to rural debtors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
