Senior\u00a0Congress\u00a0leader and former union minister\u00a0Gurudas Kamat<\/strong>\u00a0passed away on Wednesday at a private hospital in\u00a0New Delhi<\/strong>. He was 63.
\nKamat’s body will be sent back to his hometown\u00a0Mumbai<\/strong>\u00a0at around 12.30 pm today.
\nGrieving over the loss,\u00a0Congress<\/strong>\u00a0leaders described his demise as a big loss to the country.
\nTaking to his official Twitter handle, General Secretary All India\u00a0Congress\u00a0Committee (AICC)<\/strong> and former chief minister of Rajasthan\u00a0Ashok Gehlot\u00a0<\/strong>wrote, “Shocked<\/strong> and deeply saddened to hear the sudden demise of Senior\u00a0Congress\u00a0leader\u00a0Gurudas Kamat\u00a0ji. His passing away is an irreparable loss for us. My heartfelt condolences to his family members, may god give them strength to bear this loss. May his soul Rest in peace.”
\nAnother senior party leader\u00a0Randeep Singh Surjewal<\/strong>a<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>tweeted, “Shocked and deeply anguished to learn about the sudden demise of Senior\u00a0Congress\u00a0Leader Sh\u00a0Gurudas Kamat\u00a0ji. No words are enough to describe the sense of loss. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and followers. I pray for the departed soul.”
\nKamat was a commerce graduate from\u00a0R.A. Podar College\u00a0in\u00a0Mumbai\u00a0and also had a law degree from the city’s Government Law College.
\nMaharashtra Youth\u00a0Congress\u00a0leader Satyajeet Tambe Patil said that Kamat’s death is a personal loss for him. “Shocked … My leader\u00a0Gurudas Kamat\u00a0is no more. It is my personal loss as well as unrepairable loss of\u00a0Congress\u00a0party (sic),” he tweeted.
\nTerming Kamat as one of the important\u00a0Congress\u00a0leaders of Maharashtra, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president Poonam Mahajan said,”Condolences on the demise of Shri\u00a0Gurudas Kamat\u00a0ji. One of the important\u00a0Congress\u00a0leaders of Maharashtra and a dignified man.”
\nUnion Minister\u00a0Nitin Gadkari\u00a0also expressed grief on the Kamat’s demise. He said, “Sad to hear about demise of Sri\u00a0Gurudas Kamat\u00a0ji. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
\nKamat was a former president of the\u00a0Mumbai\u00a0Regional\u00a0Congress\u00a0Committee. He was also\u00a0Union Minister of State\u00a0(MoS) for Home Affairs with an additional charge of the Communications and Information Technology ministry from 2009 to 2011.
\nKamat is survived by his wife Maharookh\u00a0Gurudas Kamat\u00a0and son Dr Sunil Kamat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
